Safety Evaluation Report

The NRC staff reviewed the South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2, license renewal application for compliance with the requirements of Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 54, "Requirements for Renewal of Operating Licenses for Nuclear Power Plants," and prepared this report to document its findings. The document was issued on February 15, 2013, as "Safety Evaluation Report with Open Items Related to the License Renewal of South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2." The staff continued its review and issued a second report on October 14, 2016, titled, "Safety Evaluation Report Related To The License Renewal of South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2 (TAC No. ME4936, ME4937)," in two volumes:  Volume 1 and Volume 2.  On June 8, 2017, the staff issued the "Safety Evaluation Report Related To The License Renewal of South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2," in two volumes:  Volume 1 (ML17146B242) and Volume 2 (ML17146B224).

Environmental Impact Statement

NUREG-1437, "Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2 (NUREG-1437, Supplement 48), Final Report," was published in November 2013. This supplement documents the NRC staff's review of the environmental issues at South Texas Project regarding the STP Nuclear Operating Company application for license renewal of that facility. The supplement was prepared in accordance with 10 CFR 51.71. This supplemental environmental impact statement includes the NRC staff's analysis that considers and weighs the environmental effects of the proposed action (license renewal), the environmental impacts of alternatives to the proposed action, and potential mitigative measures for reducing or avoiding adverse impacts. It also includes the NRC staff's recommendation regarding the proposed action.
